Meeting Mrs Gu accidentally in the street at Bei Gao, Beijing, I was invited to document every corner of her house which was about to be demolished. Tenants moved out. My camera captured the emptiness. All the “valuables” were taken away except the posters and decorations on the walls. These objects spoke silently of the lives of their former owners. In addition, they allowed me to learn about the other side of Beijing, possibly a more realistic dimension.
Perhaps, things didn’t happen accidentally.
